    Question for LawDawg:

I just checked local news and learned that Winton Place/Winton Terrace has now been renamed either Spring Grove Village or Spring Gove Village. (Gotta love the reporting on ChannelCincinnati.)

Is that like renaming parts of OTR so the crime stats seem lower?

No...I think it's more like if you call an onion a rose.....well, it's still an onion.

You can change names all you like but the underlying infestation remains.

The folks in Winton Place changed the name so it wouldn't be confused with the more unsavory Winton Terrace. Spring Grove Village is from what I understand, a name from another era for that location.

There is nothing good in Winton Terrace, Bahama Terrace, Hawaiian Terrace, et al. Nothing. The only thing these places serve is to make my nights more fun.

The sad thing is, Winton Place, at one time, was the busiest non-cummuter train depot in the country. Almost all of the passenger trains going to Chicago, Michigan, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and the east coast stopped there. It's depot stood near the spot where Clifton Avenue goes under the overpass (in those days there was no overpass, the crossing was at grade). The building itself has been moved to Sharon Woods, and has been restored its original name of "Chester Park" (which is what that area was called before "Winton Place")

That said, they have to try something new I guess. I used to live over near Mt. Lookout, and I had friends who lived in the East End. They'd tell me "it's Columbia-Tusculum, thank you very much." And I was like "a rose by any other name..." And then I'd proceed to hit them in the back with a baseball bat. I hated to get violent and all, but I mean, you do what you have to in life...
